Legal Working Hours
Regular Work:
8 hours daily, 48 hours weekly
Ramadan Month:
6 hours daily for Muslims
Overtime Work
- • Maximum: 2 hours daily
- • Overtime pay: 135% of regular wage
- • Work on weekly holiday: 150% of wage
- • Work on official holidays: 200% of wage
Rest Periods and Leave
Daily Rest Periods:
- • At least 1 hour rest after 5 continuous hours of work
- • Prayer break (for Muslims)
Weekly Leave:
Full day per week (usually Friday)
Annual Leave:
21 days for first year, gradually increases to 30 days
Labor Law Violations
Employer Penalties:
- • Working employee beyond legal hours: Fine 1000-5000 EGP
- • Not granting annual leave: Fine 500-2000 EGP
- • Not paying overtime: Fine 2000-10000 EGP
Worker Rights
- • Refuse overtime if it exceeds legal limits
- • Get regular rest periods
- • Paid annual leave
- • Compensation for holiday work
- • File complaint with labor inspector for violations
